Fresh install, 4.0.4, white screen

I’m not able to see the installation screen, but seeing a white screen instead.
nginx’s access logs show that it has responded with HTTP 200 so I’m lost as to where to troubleshoot next.

Missing format=php for connecting with API - needed by piwik-dotnet-api

Hello,

is this normal that format type “php” has been removed from latest matomo 4.x version? I’m connecting to matomo using c# library from here:

(I know it was not updated for a long time but it worked up to latest 3.x version). When you look here:

you will see that sendRequest method is using:

string url = URL + "/?module=API&format=php";

but API returns that php value for format param is not valid.

Fresh install, stuck in DB upgrade loop

Hello, we’re running into some very peculiar issues trying to get a completely new Matomo installation running.

As soon as the initial setup is over and Matomo says the installation worked we land on a page saying that the database needs to be updated. When I click on update -> go to Matomo I end up at the same page again that says the database needs to be updated, so I’m stuck on this page forever. During the initial setup Matomo wrote to the MySQL DB, so it should be able to connect/write to the DB in theory. We also changed the varchar value of one field in the DB to 250 and opened Matomo in the browser again which reset it back to 250.

The version in table matomo_option is showing 4.0.4 everywhere. I also tried to run the queries that matomo displays for the database directly, query OK but no rows changed. Which makes sense, since the DB is empty apart from initial setup data.

We also tried turning on logging and debug mode, but we can’t find any error messages at all, logs only show which plugins are installed.

Database Upgrade Required after fresh install We found this thread which sounds somewhat related, but autocommit is alreadyset to on for our instance.

Did anybody run into this issue before or has any input that might help us?
Is there an option that allows skipping database updates so we could test if Matomo works apart from that?

Warning archive_main / Warning archive_errors

Hello,
I have Matomo installed through Wordpress. I encounter an issue.
This morning, I got the message “there is no data for this report” when I filtered the data of the day, and it seemed Matomo was not recording data since yesterday 16h.
But, after trying to understand the issue, Matomo was spontaneously fixed and even the data after 16h yesterday reappeared.

See below the system report, there is some warnings. Are they linked to the problem I encounter ? Are they “serious” ? I do not not how to fix them (especially the Warning archive_main).

How to make Matomo don't consume so much resources?

I have matomo installed on my shared hosting that have limit of 8 php processes, and Matomo eat everything when I’m runing the dashboard. Even small images are run via php. Is there a way for matomo to not run so many php processes, because of Matomo Google bot thinks that my website is not Mobile friendly because It can’t load css files when Matomo is running. When I open dashboard it never load all images because got 508 errors limit reached. And this is only when I run the dashboard I don’t want to upgrade my plan because 99% of time I use 1 php on my shared hosting.

Is there anything I can do to run less processes maybe rate limit the system?

Well this is a bit unexpected since its a paid module, and would expect if an upgrade in place to not break the rest

MySQl "goes away" on update

Hi,
i am working on updating matomo to the new version.
I am using SSH but everytime i get an error “mysql has gone away” at line 172.
I think my installation is called a big one… but as it is hosted on shared hosting i dont have the possibility to change things at thy mysql server…

My hoster recommended to use a command like

/usr/local/bin/php72 -d memory_limit=-1 -d max_execution_time=1200 /kunden/xxx/console core:update

but still errors and no chance to use matomo backend.

is there any solution to fix this? i cannot use matomo right now…

Edit: When i try to repeat the command it seems to work… every time one line more or something like this… now it fails at line 175

ALTER TABLE matomo_log_visitDROP COLUMNconfig_gears, DROP COLUMN config_director, DROP COLUMN visitor_days_since_first, DROP COLUMN visitor_days_since_order, DROP COLUMN visitor_days_since_last;.

but i wonder if this is a good way of updating?

Database Upgrade Loop

After updating from 3.14.1 to 4.0.4, I seem to be stuck in a database upgrade loop. The page saying the upgrade is required says:

I click the “upgrade Matomo” button, and I get the following warning:

That same error repeats 15 times, and at the bottom of the page, there’s a link to “continue to Matomo,” but that just brings me back to the page saying a dababase upgrade is required.

I’ve checked my MySQL database, and the piwik_log_visit table exists, as does the location_region column within that table.

Average Generation time disappeared in the reporting after update

I upgraded from 3.x to 4.0.4 and after the upgrade it looks like the average generation time of a page isn’t reported anymore.

How to solve this problem?

Error 500 weiße Seite nach update auf 4.0.4

Hallo,
ich habe eben ein automatisches Update von 3.9.x auf 4.0.4 angestoßen. Leider habe ich 2 Dinge zu spät bemerkt. 1. der Browser rief anscheinend eine http-Seite auf statt https und 2. meine Sicherung vom 25.11. beinhaltet nur die Datenbank. Ich erhielt im chrome einen 500 Fehler mit dem Hinweis: diese SEite funktioniert nicht, die anderen Browser zeigen eine weiße Seite. Die log - Datei zeigt diesen Fehler: ip6.invalid
Nun mache ich gerade eine Sicherung per ftp, auch die DB ist gesichert - ich weiß jedoch beides zusammen funktioniert nicht.
Dann hatte ich die Idee eine weitere Datenbank anzulegen und dort die vom 25.11.2020 einzuspielen und dann recht ungefährlich die conif anzupassen und zu hoffen, dass Matomo damit erst mal wieder läuft - hier darf nichts verlorengehen. Leider funktioniert das nicht, vermutlich da hier ein createTable fehlt.
Was kann ich nun tun?

No visits recorded since upgarding to 4

Since upgrading to version 4, we have recorded zero visits. I initially upgraded to 4.03, then a couple of days later to 4.04 after seeing the upgrade notice. Since the upgrade no records for anything.

Our tracking code on the webpages is up-to-date (I double checked the code generated by version 4.04). The suggested database upgrade to UTF8mb4 charset was done and the only error still showing on the System Check is a notice about “LOAD DATA INFILE”, but that has been showing since we started with Matomo and we don’t have a high volume website. MySQL and PHP are newer versions than the minimum suggested.

I can see the matomo.js file lading and seems to connect to the cookies, but see no response sent back (if it sends any sort of XHR response).

I don’t want to downgrade to 3, but may have to unless I can get 4 working.

You are currently not allowed to log in

Besides this problem I now have a new one.
I can’t log in to my Matomo, I always get a “You are currently not allowed to log in …”.
I tried from different computers and devices, with different IPs, but nothing helps. So I can’t check (and change) Brute Force Settings.
Is there any other way to clear that problem? I have SSH access to a server with all privileges.

Matomo after upgrade warnings related to running on Windows system

I’m not sure if this should be called a bug but matomo is trying to perform actions after upgrade without checking if it is runned on Windows.

Segmenting bot visits in log analytics

Hi. I’m wondering if anyone has a practical way to track both probable human visits and bot visits. I’m interested in both and want to view segments for each.

Prior to Matomo 4.0, I used a Custom Variable for the Bot property to create a segment. This didn’t work great, but it did capture well-known (GoogleBot, etc.) bot visits. In 4.0, I tried to do something similar with Custom Dimensions but can’t seem to use my Custom Dimension to create a segment. (I did notice that Operating System sometimes has a value of “Bot”, but a segment created with that filter captures very little.)

Is there another way to do this with Custom Dimension in 4.x? Or is there a better way?

Locked out of 3.7. Can't get into admin area
