Hello,
Situation:
I have an installation of Piwik 2.16 which is running on “statistics.mydomain.com”. I cannot disturb it, as I do not want any information lost for the customers. It collects various stats of ± 30 sites which have a medium/high traffic.
The DB has statistics tables/archives of the past 5 years.
This Piwik installation needs to be updated to Matomo. Here is what I tried:
After some cloning and playing with other domains/DNS records, containers… I came to the conclusion the best thing to do was a fresh install in a new folder.I installed Matomo in “statistics.mydomain.com/matomo”. Now both installations are running in parallel. They both run in the same DB, just with a different prefix. piwik_ for the older installation and matomo_ for the new one.
I have a few questions:
- Since I have to update the tracking for all the sites anyway, should I add all the sites manually to the new matomo installation, then somehow import the old data there?
- Can I move the installation folder from /mydomain.com/matomo to /mydomain.com without breaking all the stuff? (I suppose I will have to update all the tracking codes at that point?)
- Is there a better option or a way to directly migrate everything? I am afraid that some data/elements which are related to plugins running under PHP5 fail to work properly in the new environment (PHP7).
- Should I just incorporate all the piwik_ tables into _matomo tables?
Losing up to one day of data/tracking during the manipulations is not problematic, but I struggle to determine the best approach here, as I am not very familiar with Piwik/Matomo and I would like to determine the best approach and which potential issues could arise, before making any major move.
Thanks for your help!
